A while back I purchased Trainz ultimate collection. And I have had some fun with it since then. The beauty of it is that it doesn’t take as long as railsimulator to load. There is also lots of free downloads for trainz. This is due to a great community that creates trainz addons. The biggest resource for trainz addons trainz maps and trainz rolling stock is the Auran website. So go check it out.

I picked up trainz ultimate collection the other day. So now I have Railsimulator Trainz Msts and Bve on my computer. Trainz looks like a decent rail simulator. It’s easy to figure out how to drive the trains. I haven’t tried downloading anything from planet auran yet, but I wil try it tomorrow after work.

I am actually a bit bored with railsimulator these days. So I am looking forward to see some new routes and trains for it.  I am also looking forward to the upcoming patch for it. It looks like Trainz is the rail simulator with the most addons available besides Msts. So I am really looking forward to see what trains and routes I can find for it. Lots of people are saying that the route creator in Trainz is the best one out there.  Well I have to go to work tomorrow so I better get some sleep.

Tomorrow I am going to try another railsimulator called Boso View Express shortened BVE. This is a Japanese railsimulator that is freeware.  There is a bundle of routes and trains for this railsimulator so I am really looking forward to try it. There are no Norwegian routes and trains for this simulator as far as I can tell but that doesn’t matter much. I think its still going to be fun to try it.

I might pick up a version of Trainz also just to try it. I have  heard lots of positive things about it. And I still got msts installed on my computer.  It’s good to have some variation.

I have made some progress on the Hardangerbana route. But it takes time to figure out the various stuff in the dev tools. I am waiting for some more documentation to be released on several things in the program.  But now it’s time for bed……

Hopefully in the future there will be some great player made routes and trains. Hopefully it will be easy to convert the old routes from MSTS Trainz and the other trainsimulators out there. It’s amazing to see the work that has been put into the trains and routes that has been created.

I have a few dream routes and trains that I wish someone would make. And those are Hardangerbana and the trains that were used on that route.  Flåmsbanen and the route from Bergen to Myrdal would be nice to see also. Who knows maybe there are someone that wants to make these routes. On November 12th Kujo will release the Professional DevToolPack for Rail Simulator and it will be fun to see what comes out of it. It will be fun to see whats coming.

The long awaited railsimulator has arrived. It’s been 6 years since Microsoft released their trainsimulator. And it’s the people behind it that has made this game. After a few days of playing it looks like Kuju has made a pretty decent game. I’ll call it decent because it has some flaws.

Graphics

The graphics are really good and they run smooth on my computer. The amount of detail inside the cabs are amazing. You can rotate in any angle possible inside the cab. It’s a pleasure to look around the various trains and see all the details. But something thats not good is the grass that grows on the tracks and how the birds fly on autopilot. There are no moving cars as far as I can see just parked ones. Hopefully these things will change in the upcoming patch.

Controls

You have various levels of controls. The simple level the controls are just to accelerate brake and put it in forward or reverse. This goes all the way up to the advanced level where you control everything. You can chose to use the mouse to move the various handles or you can use the keyboard. I found it hard to use the mouse on some of the controls. But I guess thats all a matter of what one would prefer. The controls are easy to figure out as the game comes with a great manual.

Gameplay

Overall I am a bit disappointed I think that they should have added some more trains to the game and some more routes. 4 different lines is not enough for my taste a few more would have given me some more time to look around. Hopefully this will be added later. What I think is a great thing is that you have various eras. You can drive a steam locomotive in the 50s or a commuter train in the 70s. You have various things you can chose to do. You can either drive around the routes or you can play with the various tasks you can do. These range from delivering freight load to running a passenger train. The physics of the trains doesn’t always work like in real life. When you crash with your passenger cars. The train reacts like its been shot out of a cannon. How realistic the physics are in other aspects like speed and weight I don’t know.

But I still would recommend this game to a fan of Microsoft trainsimulator. Despite it short comings I enjoy the game and it’s also fun. The details in the trains makes it a thrilling game to play. And hopefully players are busy making addons in the form of routes and trains.

Overall I would give Kuju railsimulator 8 out of 10.
