My old books
Written by damiende on October 7, 2007 – 5:36 pmI am one of those that likes to collect stuff.
And the collection I’m most proud of is my collection of books. I have more then 400 books in my collection. Ranging from Crime to biographies. The oldest book in my collection is a bible from 1876. I also have a few cookbooks from the same era. The cookbooks are my favorites, I enjoy reading them from time to time. It’s interesting to see how some things never change when it comes to cooking. It’s also fun to see how things have changed over the years. I have been reading books all my life. And I have read almost every book in my collection. Some of them I have read more then once. Carl Hiaasen is one of my favorite authors today. Along with Ingvar Ambjørnsen. I have read all of Carl Hiaasens books several times. The same goes for the books of Ingvar Ambjørnsen. Most of the time I read two or three books at the same time.
I recently started to work in a thrift store. And I am disgusted at how they treat things. Books that are not sold are being destroyed. Same thing goes for furniture that doesn’t get sold. I hate to see old things destroyed because others say it’s worthless. The irony is that most of the books that get destroyed. Gets destroyed because those pricing them, are pricing them to high. Another thing that’s amazing actually is that they destroy bibles. Yepp you heard me, the thrift store is a part of the Salvation army. And they destroy bibles that don’t sell.
I think that destroying a book that’s complete are really stupid. You don’t destroy books. Unless they are in a bad bad shape. If it’s of no value for you it’s of value for someone else.
Another thing about collecting stuff is space. Besides books I collect cameras and other stuff. Recently I got myself a old cash register. It got a few dents in it. And some buttons are missing. But it works, and since I got it for free I took it. Only problem is I am running out of space. So I might have to move soon, to a bigger place.
Until next time

I collect books too. The problem is they do take up a lot of room, I have them in every room of my house. I guess thrift stores must be the same world wide. Here in California USA. they price things so high and then they destroy them when they don’t sell. They burn the stuffed animals and just throw away alot of stuff. We are very close to Mexico and they could just send it down there where ppeople could use the stuff but they don’t..

Found you at Bloggeries, had to read this story! I love books too, and space can be an issue, some of them I went through and found a library not to far that was struggling and they were more than happy to get some of my overflow!
